A guide to Dealing with 4 Month Sleep Regression.
Sleep regression is the refusal for a baby who has been sleeping well, suddenly changes and refuses to nap or starts to sleeps for shorter intervals. During the regression, the baby may resist to sleep, wakes up many times and after a short while, or take a longer time to fall asleep. Sleep regression mostly occur when the bay is around 3 or 4 months, and might still re-occur at 9 months, or when the baby hits a year and a half old. Let discuss some of the reasons why sleep regression occurs at 4 months, otherwise known as 4 month old sleep regression and ways of trying to alleviate the regression.
At the age of 4 to 6 months, the baby has started noticing the things around him or her. The 6 month old napping schedule is interfered as the baby does not want to sleep, the toddler want to explore and play. The plays and exploration moments pushes the sleeping schedule ahead.
To minimize the cases of experiencing the regressions, schedule the plays so that they do not interfere with the toddlers napping time. Have a bath and massage before sleeping so that the toddler can relax and sleep well.
Sleep regression can also be caused by changing the feeding schedule. If the toddler feeds earlier than he or she is used to, the baby might wake up at night, possibly due to hunger. Avoid frequent altering of the feeding timetable, but if the change is inevitable, the baby will adapt with time.
Change of diet can also cause the sleep regression. A 6 months old toddler has not been introduced to several types of foods. At that age, the toddler is on breast or formula milk. A Change or introduction of formula milk might affect some toddlers, interfering with their digestion as well as sleep pattern. Make such changes in the morning or daytime to give room for observing any side effects of change in diet.
Change of weather can also cause sleep regression especially to toddlers who are not used to travelling. They may completely refuse to nap during the day, and also not sleep well at night. They may also suffer from cold-related symptoms such as flue due to the change of weather, thus affecting their sleeping schedule. Avoid travelling with toddlers of this age, unless where need be. Also, ensure you carry warm clothing for the baby to minimize the effects of cold.
Form a sleeping routine that will be followed during bedtimes. Start with an early meal, then a warm bath, followed by a time to read the baby a story before the toddler sleep.
To conclude, take note of the several methods of concurring the 4 month sleep regression. Understand that each baby may respond differently from the given ways of concurring sleep regression.
